7th Annual BaoBao Festival

Malaika, Ashley, Lizi, Antoinette and Carmen will be performing “Sweet Water” honoring  the Brazilian force of nature, (Orixa)  OXUM.  Choreography  by Brazilian artist, Rosangela Silvestre.  Costumes by Neisha Remaily-Silva.   Brazilian singer and musician, Joao Junqueira will be performing with us.

Lizi has danced various ethnic styles (West African, Modern, Bellydance, Indian, Afro-Brazilian and Afro-Cuban) for the past 6 years. Her study of dance has been a formal and informal journey that has taken her to many places. Performance has always been an integral thread for Lizi and what inspires her to continue her passion for life. She has performed in Portland, OR, Cazadero, CA, Olympia, WA, Salvador da Bahia, Brazil and most recently, Boulder, CO. She has studied under Donna Oefinger of Portland, Nem Brito of Salvador and world-renowned master dancer and choreographer Rosangela Silvestre. Her approach to teaching is considerate, exhilarating and she brings out the best in her students.

From Salvador, Bahia, Rosangela Silvestre is a choreographer, teacher and dancer.  She has a Masters degree in dance from the Federal University of Bahia,  she has studied, taught and helped to
evolve “Afro-Brazilian” dance   with Mestre King, Clyde Morgan and Mercedes Baptista.    She  has developed a contemporary Brazilian dance form called
‘The Silvestre Technique’. Her work and teachings are unforgettable and life changing.

Bateria 2004

This Thursday, May 7, 2009 the bateria parades to the Laughing Goat by about 8pm where Ginga Grande will play pagode until about 10:30.  Come dance, sing, and clap with us!! Ten musicians! Indoor samba percussion.  Songs of Brazil. Roda de samba.

This is a fundraiser for Instruments 4 Change and is part of our playing at the Goat the first Thursday of every month.

Donations.

The Goat serves beer and wine.

There is going to be Samba tomorrow.
